ADDITIONAL STUFF:

This section has been added to illustrate the better looking results of starting from a tested plan and other stuff.

My design process requires trial and error, testing and modifying (function over appearance). The next generation may consider use of improved materials and improved looks. Below are pictures of a larger furnace constructed by one of my sons. Also a hotwire foam cutter built for my other son. You will notice some improvement in appearance to ones on proceeding pages.

RESPONSES:

Thought I’d share some responses from folks who’ve purchased the book.

Blindpig’s book is one of my personal favorites and his furnace is different than anything else I’ve seen on the web. The book is geared toward guys like me. No fancy math or science, just a straight up step by step guide to building a good sized, very versatile furnace from parts that no one should have any problem finding. It’s full of pictures and drawings that help explain the text. As with any plan you can add your own twists to his ideas. My copy is dirty and ragged from going through it over and over. Even if you go a different route, Bilndpig’s tried and true concepts should help you build your dream furnace.

I have done some melting with a propane burner and was looking for a cheaper alternative and I think the waste oil burner will be the way to go. Your book was very informational and easy to read. Unfortunately circumstances prevent me from being able to make a waste oil furnace at this time but if/when I am able to I will use this book as essentially step by step instructions. Good book.

My suggestion to anyone would be, read the book cover to cover. Then study what you’ve just read. I’m impressed with the amount of innovative information there. He’s also taken care to point out safety issues and how to handle them. Don says” pay attention to safety in all parts of this operation”. - Clarence from Raytown, Missouri
